New Westminster 7, Nanaimo 5
In New Westminster the ‘Bellies would host the visiting Timbermen in just their second matchup of the season. Back on June 10th Nanaimo hosted New West in a nail biter game that was up in the air right to the final whistle, but ultimately saw the ‘Bellies head back to the mainland with the 9-8 victory. The Timbermen had lost their last two games by just one goal and were looking to break the habit in New West on Wednesday as part of the three game mid-week extravaganza in the BCJALL.

The ‘Bellies had a decent start against the T-Men and in addition to their four opening goals, New West’s defense was frustrating Nanaimo and keeping them to the outside. Cody Bremner had an impressive goal with just half a second to go in the period as he quickly collected the rebound off his goaltender Zack Boychuk, and had just enough time to calculate a well executed shot all the way down the floor into the empty New West net as they had Brandon Mulligan out for the extra attacker.

The game would start strong and slowly decline as the periods went on, and at one point the Timbermen came within one thanks to a goal from Paul Brebber, but the ‘Bellies once again broke out and the game would end by a score of 7-5.

Nanaimo's Glenn Foley looks to make the pass while being checked hard by the Bellie defender.

Both teams defensive players had good showings tonight, and both goalies saw the ball well despite not being tested as much as they could have been. Boychuk would improve between the iron as the night went on, but Nanaimo’s shots and energy declined in the second period which hindered their ability to catch up to the ‘Bellies on the scoreboard. Ryan Forslund led the T-Men with one goal and two helpers, and Tyler Digby, Mark Negrin, Leif Mydske and Jay Card led the ‘Bellies with three points apiece.

Coquitlam 20, Poco 5
Over in Coquitlam the Adanacs came out swinging against the Saints, jumping out to a 9-0 start after just one period of play. The Saints were adjusting to their new roster without big names such as Scott Jones, Matt Laustrup, Trevor Evans, and Darcy Cummings, who were traded to Delta earlier in the week.

Russell McFadyen would be first to get the Saints on the board halfway through the second period, but seven more goals from the league leaders would drown out any hopes of a Port Coquitlam comeback. In the final twenty minutes the play would even out between the two teams with each scoring four goals; but the Coquitlam assault in the first two periods would end the game with a final score of 20-5, which keeps the Adanacs one point ahead of the ‘Bellies for top spot in the BCJALL standings.

Timbermens Cody Bremner checks the Bellie player hard in behind Nanaimo's net in hopes of creating the loose ball.

New West's Jeff Sproule looks to take a sharp angle shot on Timbermen tender Zack Boychuk.

Matthew Dinsdale had an unreal night in the faceoff circle winning 23 and losing just 3 for the Adanacs, and those faceoff possessions no doubt helped Coquitlam ultimately outshoot the Saints 30-62 when the game was said and done. All but three players on the Coquitlam roster had points tonight; Mark Matthews lead the pack with five goals and five helpers, which increases his point average to an impressive 6.6 over just ten games for the A’s.

Delta 21, Langley 8
Out in Ladner the Langley Thunder were on the road for their final game of the season against the Islanders, in a game where the four new faces in Delta would make their mark in their first match for their new squad. The first period was tight between the two teams with the Islanders heading into the first break with a slim 5-4 advantage, but eight goals scored in the second and third period would break the game wide open for Delta and the final score would be 21-8.

Trevor Evans wasted no time making use of his new Islanders uniform as he scored their first goal just a minute and a half into the game and put up seven total points. Matt Laustrup assisted on a power play goal from Logan Schuss, and Darcy Cummings matched Evans with seven points as well (3 goals, 4 assists). Scott Jones bested all of his ex-Saint/current-Islander teammates with four goals and five helpers, bringing the four player total to 24points on the night for their new squad.
