After sixty minutes of even play an overtime period was needed in game one of the BCJALL finals on Wednesday night where Coquitlam managed to break out in the extra frame with four unanswered goals to take the win; all eyes then shifted to Queens Park Arena on Friday night to see if the Salmonbellies could use home floor advantage to even up the series.
Confidence from game one appeared to carry over for the Adanacs as they had an impressive first period and seemed to have the answer for everything New West put on them. The A's scored first on a goal from Brandon Bertoia and Robert Church would capitalize on their only power play opportunity of the period to give the visitors a 2-0 lead after the opening frame. Coquitlam was strong playing five on five, with the man advantage, killing penalties and outshot the 'Bellies 16-7 after the first.

Brodie MacDonald stuffs New West's Mark Negrin and holds the Bellies scoreless during a two man advantage for two minutes in the second period. |
|
Whatever was said during the break in the New West dressing room was quickly converted into results on the floor as the Salmonbellies tied the game up just four minutes into the second period. A cluster of penalties against Tor Reinholdt and Robbie Campbell gave the 'Bellies what seemed like the perfect opportunity to take control of the game with a two man advantage; enter A's goalie Brodie MacDonald who made six incredible and absolutely crucial saves during the PK and still had gas in the tank as he made another save as the penalties expired. After a couple of minutes and two more unbelievable saves Colton Clark was the 'Bellie to finally crack MacDonald as he threw past a carbon copy of his goal in the third period of game one, unloading a rocket from the top of the shooting circle.
All tied up once again there was talk in the stands of who would be the breakout team in the final twenty minutes, or if overtime would be needed yet again. Brandon Goodwin squeaked his power play goal either between MacDonald's arm and body, or arm and the post just two minutes in. After New West scored three goals in the opening five minutes of the third MacDonald was replaced by Dan Lewis who made seven saves with two goals against in relief. After having an overtime period to forget in game one the 'Bellies turned it around and had a third period to remember in game two as they came back and took the game by a final score of 9-5, tying up the series at one game apiece.

Ex-Delta Islander Robbie Campbell, now playing for Coquitlam, picks up the loose ball with Bellies forward Mark Negrin pressing him to lose the ball. |

Coquitlam's defense tried to keep the Bellies outside all night including here where Michael Krgovich of the Adanacs defends his floor. |
|
No surprise Mark Matthews and Robert Church led the Adanacs with four points each, but for the 'Bellies it was Colton Clark who had an impressive night on the scoresheet chalking up four helpers in addition to his tying goal in the second period. Jay Card had five points as well with two goals and three assists, followed by Keegan Bal and Brandon Goodwin who each had two goals. New West goalie Frank Scigliano was only heavily tested in the first period as Coquitlam's shots trailed off as the game went on, and at the other end of the floor after holding New West scoreless in the first and making 22 saves in the second, one would assume MacDonald was a bit fatigued and why he was replaced by Lewis in the third.

Head Coach Dan Perreault looks on in the final minutes as the Bellies go on to win and tie the series up at one each. |
|
Both teams have now each scored 17 goals over the two games in the BCJALL finals, and no surprise the team who leads in shots ends up winning. New West played an extremely disciplined game on Friday with only two penalties called against them the whole game, and despite a 23 minute score drought to start, the 'Bellies took advantage of their opportunities when it counted and managed to hold Coquitlam to just five goals for the first time this season.
