FANS HAVE THEIR SAY

In addition to my time spent in Jr. A arenas, I've been to a couple of WLA and Senior B games where I didn't have to take note of every single detail- I just got to enjoy the game. A definite highlight in my lacrosse (watching) career was when I got to watch an NLL game between the Rush and Lumberjax; seeing the platforms of where players advance to after Jr. ball makes the game that much more appealing, and keeps me that much more interested!

The pace, skill, and physicality of lacrosse makes it hard to lose interest. The speed of the game makes it hard to look away, even for even a second. The players move fast, the ball moves faster. Whatever it is that does it for you, can be caught in almost every junior game.

Here are your picks for best 2008 Junior A regular season game:
The South Fraser Stickmen had yet another season the club would like to forget, but hidden within their mostly disappointing season lies one of the most memorable games of the year. If there is one thing South Fraser isn't lacking- it's fans. Cam said the June 6th game at North Surrey Arena was 'definitely the best, finally getting their first and only win of the season'. Linda and Kevin made the long trek from Winnipeg to watch the Stickmen play, and say 'it was exciting to see the team come back from a 6-2 deficit at the end of the second to score five goals in the final period to take it to over time!!' They also claim to be 'those people' who were cheering the loudest when the Stickmen scored those two unanswered goals in the extra period to get them their first and only win of the season.

Rod, who follows the Adanacs, says the July 2nd game versus New West was the game to beat this season. 'Not only was first place on the line in this late season game, but bragging rights and playoff byes- everyone knows how important that first round bye is! The game was fast paced and had great hits, saves, and goals. It was close from start to finish. All tied at four a piece to start the third, the goals came fast- both teams doubled their goal total in the final period, but Jarrett Davis had the last and most important goal with just nine seconds left. The way this game was going I thought New West might even have a chance to come back, but not this time!'

M.K. follows Nanaimo and says 'Cody Bremner scoring seven goals in the May 9th barnburner between Nanaimo and Victoria makes that the match of the season. Lots of good hits and great saves back and forth made for one of the most exciting games of the year.'

Victoria fan Paul agrees with M.K. and says 'the May 9th game was a good one, but takes a backseat to the June 28th matchup between the Shamrocks and Adanacs which had to be the best game of the year. No penalties for the opening 25 minutes, just hard end to end lacrosse between two offensive power-houses. Cayle Ratcliff and Joel Henry would score two goals a piece in the last two periods to help their team embarrass the A's 11-5.'

June 22nd was the date for Delta supporter Mike, 'The Islanders needed a win to keep alive a remote chance of making the playoffs. Tensions were high because of their opponents, the high flying Burnaby Lakers in their home rink. A defensive struggle of major proportions took place, and no one could put anything in the net- both goaltenders were outstanding as the lead went back and forth one goal at a time and tensions increased. At the final buzzer the score was just 3-3, and with just seconds left in overtime, Arbogast picked up a ball in the Islander end and quickly passed it up to his teammate Lemire who made one pass up the right side to Canil who streaked in from the right, deked out Laker goalie Tom Wray, and scored the winner with just six seconds left in the overtime period. The celebration at the end was much deserved, and great to see from the stands'

Thanks to all the fans that sent in their emails, I enjoyed reading your favorites and now the rest of the Jr A fans will too! Keep the emails coming, I like getting league feedback from the fans! Until next season… Submitted by Jen Mutas
